May 6-7, 2004 Fairhill Center, Cleveland, Ohio
Registration will begin in February for the first-ever regional
conference on creating affordable, high quality, healthy office
and program space for all types of nonprofit organizations.
Sessions will include strategy, financing, shared services,
and management. The two-day event will also promote peer networking
and professional exchange among nonprofits, developers, foundations
and public officials who are promoting and supporting the growing
number of Multi-tenant Nonprofit Centers (MTNCs) in the Midwest.
The Conference will be hosted at the Fairhill Center, a MTNC
of 15 nonprofits that seeks to "foster successful aging". Participants
will also have a chance to visit the Cleveland Green Building
Coalition, a MTNC that successfully remodeled a historic property
into a certified 'green' building. Don't forget to spread the
word to your colleagues, professional networks, and project partners.
From Wilmington, Delaware, we learn about the MTNC Community Service
Building's recognition as a model of energy efficiency.and the
approaches they took to achieve over $40,000 in annual cost savings.
The Interchurch Center, a MTNC in New York City, has created strategic
partnerships to offer relevant, cost-effective training and learning
opportunities for staff of its 85 faith and educational tenant
organizations.
A research project started five years ago has pioneered efforts
to document Multi-tenant Nonprofit Centers around the country.
A participant in the Collaborating for Success Network, Dr.
Diane Kaplan-Vinokur developed the Under One Roof Project to
disseminate information and undertake research on nonprofit co-locations,
including their benefits, challenges, best practices, and "lessons
learned" to interested communities, nonprofits and their partners
and supporters. This site includes a gallery of nonprofit co-locations
that can be searched as a database by keyword, state and type.
It also includes a user-friendly bibliography on nonprofit co-location.

Curious to know more about nonprofit co-location? Diane has
also posted a PowerPoint that is a clear and informative overview
of MTNCs on our very own online
resource archive.
We are grateful to those who have taken the time to participate
in our online survey on developing a professional network for quality
workspace for our nonprofit sector. And congratulations to the
winners of our prize draw.
