Loan program offers financing for Ontario shared space projects
Infrastructure Ontario is now offering loans to nonprofit centers (or "hubs") in the greater Toronto area. This loan program is available for capital investments including, but not limited to, acquisition, new construction, renovations, energy efficiencies, and accessibility improvements for new or existing facilities. Long term fixed rates for up to $25 million are available up to 25 years. Learn more.

Nonprofit center serving youth with disabilities and wounded veterans launched in Washington, D.C.
The National Youth Transitions Center officially opened its doors October 26. Developed by NCN member the HSC Foundation, the NYTC will provide transition services, research, public policy, and wounded veterans’ services to youth. Forty organizations are collaborating with the center, twelve of which are housed in the new, state of the art, seven-story facility. Learn more. |

YWCA of Brooklyn damaged by Hurricane Irene, receives FEMA funds
NCN member YWCA of Brooklyn is recovering from Hurricane Irene: water damage was so extensive to YWCA's affordable housing units that the NCN member applied for and received FEMA funding. Learn more. Update since this article: the YWCA was able to receive a short-term loan to cover costs for reimbursement by FEMA funds. Support the YWCA by attending its annual gala fundraiser. |

Shared community space for workers opens in Oregon
A new shared space for workers in Gresham, OR celebrated its opening day on October 23rd. Months in planning, Neighborhoods United (Vecinos Unidos) provides shared meeting and organizing space for activists and nonprofits in the community. Learn more. |

Artscape Wychwood Barns recognized for sustainable design
NCN member Artspace Wychwood Barns has been named a finalist for the Zerofootprint Re-Skinning Awards, which showcases excellence in holistic retrofitting projects from around the world. Formerly streetcar repair barns, the Toronto, ON nonprofit center offers artist live-workspace, a farmers market, and community space in a facility that harvests rain water, combats heat-island effect, and harnesses geothermal heating and air conditioning.
