| Description: |
The Collaboratory is a North American nonprofit research and educational organization. Its mission is to enable communities to develop systemic solutions to health, educational, social and economic problems by accessing investment support from local, national and international sources and effectively working across organizations and sectors. Succeeding with this work requires new partnerships, information, and support to occur in an awkward "no man's land" between legal entities and across traditional boundaries. The Collaboratory works within this "no man's land" and has successfully supported communities through transformed institutions-like United Ways, community foundations, hospitals, units of government, etc.-in developing plans and implementation strategies for (re)designing community systems: from literacy to housing and homelessness to teen pregnancy prevention to developing a ten year Poverty Reduction Master Plan and Process for the 67,000 residents of thirteen neighborhoods in North Minneapolis. Success in each of these efforts is based on achieving community outcomes and sustaining resource requirements. |
| Products/Services: |
The "cartilage" which The Collaboratory provides-from facilitating core process design to mass-audience presentations to comprehensive plan drafting to governance development and role clarity to best practice research to information technologies to community engagement to executive coaching-has had enduring impact on the success of these and other cross-discipline projects. The Collaboratory has been the leader in the research, design and development of the community support organization (CSO) model. The CSO creates community capacity and assures engagement to respond systemically and holistically to a broad range of issues required to achieve a lasting change in a community condition. |
