Tides Canada selects Program Consultant team to develop NCN Canada program

Roman Katsnelson and Erin McFarlane of KRD Consulting in Calgary, AB have been engaged to lead efforts to grow shared spaces and social purpose real estate in Canada

Tides Canada and The Nonprofit Centers Network are pleased to announce the launch of The Nonprofit Centres Network Canada (NCN Canada) – a new program at Tides Canada, created to address the unique needs of Canadian organizations involved in nonprofit shared spaces and social purpose real estate projects. The Nonprofit Centers Network (NCN) – a United States based peer-learning community for nonprofits sharing space and other resources – is providing seed funding to catalyze this work

We are pleased to be leading this exploration of how to enhance the potential of shared spaces and social purpose real estate in Canada.

“We are pleased to be leading this exploration of how to enhance the potential of shared spaces and social purpose real estate in Canada. The NCN Canada program will leverage our experience with shared governance and administrative platforms and is part of our commitment to build prosperous economies that benefit all Canadians,” said Allison Andrachuk, Tides Canada’s Shared Platform Director.

After an extensive request for proposal process, The NCN Canada Steering Committee selected Roman Katsnelson and Erin McFarlane of KRD Consulting as the Program Consultant team for NCN Canada’s growth.

The request for proposal and scope of work were developed in conjunction with a volunteer committee that was formed at the Building Opportunities for Success: Social Purpose Real Estate Conference in Vancouver, BC. The committee then participated in four conference calls in the fall of 2015 to identify priorities for this contract based on their experience in their communities and in the field at large. KRD Consulting was chosen through a competitive process due to their experience with shared spaces and their emphasis on developing a thriving community of shared space practitioners across Canada.

“NCN is excited to support KRD Consulting in playing a critical role to strengthen nonprofit shared spaces in Canada and to provide seed funding for NCN Canada for this first year,” said Lara Jakubowski, NCN’s Executive Director and NCN Canada Steering Committee Member. “Although there is much overlap in the tools and resources needed to run a nonprofit shared space center in the US and Canada, we recognize that there are policy and issue areas specific to Canada. We hope the contract with KRD Consulting will result in an expansion of the critical work that our Canadian friends are undertaking.”

The NCN Canada program will create case studies, establish a Community of Practice, and develop a fundraising strategy to increase the sustainability of NCN Canada.

“I am absolutely thrilled to see this work develop traction with the engagement of KRD Consulting and the launch of the NCN Canada program at Tides Canada,” said Glen Newby, NCN Canada Steering Committee Co-Chairman and President and CEO of New Path Youth and Family Services. “The knowledge, skill, and expertise developed by NCN members over the years in both the US and Canada is truly exemplary. With the professional experience of KRD Consulting, the pan-Canadian project will bring together those learnings to benefit organizations and funders that have a focus on nonprofit shared spaces, community hubs, and social purpose real estate.”
