Michael is a leading strategist and advisor on creative and innovative grantmaking strategies. He has worked at the Ford Foundation, the New World Foundation, the American Freedom from Hunger Foundation, the Funding Exchange, and the Bread and Roses Community Fund. At the Ford Foundation, he was responsible for the Foundation’s work in promoting organized philanthropy in the United States, Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Most recently, he served as the president of the New York Regional Association of Grantmakers (NYRAG), a membership association of more than 270 private, public and corporate funders. His broad a range of experiences in philanthropic innovation, including focusing attention on how foundations can apply their mission and values to the design and utilization of their spaces. Michael Seltzer is also a well-known pioneer in the field of nonprofit management. He is the author of Securing Your Organization’s Future, writes a regular column on Philantopic, the Foundation Center blog, and has lectured at philanthropy forums in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Africa. His articles have appeared in Worth, Stanford Social Innovation Review, Foundation News and Commentary, the NYRAG Times, and New Directions for Philanthropic Fundraising. He is a founding trustee of EMpower - The Emerging Markets Foundation, which provides young people in EM countries with the resources, skills, mentorship and opportunities to improve their lives, a board member of the Forum of the Regional Associations of Grantmakers, and a member of the National Advisory Committee of GreatNonprofits.
