As the real estate market continues to change and stimulus funds become available, nonprofit organizations are finding new opportunities to create quality workspace and facilities for themselves and the communities they serve. This seminar offered tracks for established facility managers and new projects.

Session 1 A: Planning for Success: Strategic Considerations
Get an overview of strategic questions you must consider when creating a nonprofit workspace that meets the mission of your organization as well as builds long-term assets for the community.

Session 1 B: Sustainable Operations in Lean Times
Examine both revenue-generation and cost-cutting measures to make your facility self-sustaining. Topics include: Elements of a financially-feasible business models; Green building operations; Alternative revenue sources, including co-working space, conference room rental, and purchasing power agreements.

Session 3 A: Introduction to Non-Profit facilities Financing
This session offers an introduction to the many options available for financing simple and complex real estate projects. Learn what you need to do to prepare for financing and assess your credit worthiness. Topics include: a) Bank financing; b) Community loan funds; d) Tax-exempt bonds; e) Social enterprise; and f) New market tax credits.

Session 3 B: Getting to Full-Occupancy:Tenant Recruitment,Leasing & Retention
Tenant recruitment and leasing issues are paramount to the long-term success of a shared nonprofit facility. This presentation will provide an interactive environment for questions and peer advice on leasing space in the current market.

Session 4 A: Real Estate Considerations
Explore real estate, design, and development issues that arise when doing a facilities project. Session 4 B: Share Services Overview
Explore the cost efficiencies in shared services such as meeting space, IT support, staffing, HR, and pooled purchasing. Add shared program. Learn how those services may be funded and organized and the pitfalls to avoid.
